UNISON has 1,200 branches in the UK. The Cornwall Local Government Branch is made up of all its members. Some members are elected by their workforce to play different roles.

Branch Chair: Nick Olgard
Facilitates Branch and committee meetings (some are also senior negotiators).

 

Assistant Branch Chair: Vacant
Assists the Branch Chair in branch and committee meetings.

 

Branch Secretary: Gill Allen
The main contact person with the wider union who handles Branch administration. They also carry out senior negotiations and act upon issues affecting the entire branch. A fantastic role that ensures UNISON Cornwall operates at full efficiency and that every member is fairly represented. 

 

Branch Treasurer: Malcolm Ball
Responsible for managing Branch finances, including keeping accounts.

 

Equalities Officers: Jo Mace-Butler 
Works on equal rights issues including sex, race, disability and the LGBTQI community.

 

Health & Safety Officer: Brian Edgeler & Eryca Hosken
Campaigns around Health & Safety issues for the Branch

 

Education Officer: Kerry Gray & Kristina Jewiss
Helps arrange training courses and education programmes for members, stewards, health and safety reps and Branch officers.

 

Membership Officer: Gill Allen
Keeps track of the branch’s membership and works to develop recruitment and organising.

 

Branch Communications Officers: Currently vacant
Co-ordinates Branch newsletters, websites and other media.

 

Young Member’s Officer: Callum Rowley
The role of the Young Members’ officer is ideal for someone who is interested in becoming more active within UNISON. This officer also helps other young members with guidance on workplace issues that may be specific to young people and who want to become more active within UNISON.

 

Women’s Officer: Norma Guyver-Cole And Michelle Cooper
UNISON women campaign for equality in the workplace and for improvements to women’s rights in the workplace and in the wider community

 

Welfare Officer: Shirley Mills
Makes sure that members seeking welfare assistance receive a prompt, supportive and effective response.

 

International Officer: Darren Moore
This officer develops and leads on international solidarity activities including campaigns, twinning with sister unions and support for projects abroad.

 

Life-Long Co-Ordinator: Eryca Hosken

 

Retired Members Officer: TBC
The retired members’ officer enables retired members of the branch to continue to be active in the union through the branch’s retired members’ section.
